Cancer Issue Page

Cancer is not one, but many diseases, which occur when cells grow and divide irregularly, then invade, destroy, or alter adjacent tissues, and possibly spread to other parts of your body. Incredible progress has been made in early detection and treatment, which have transformed some cancers into very curable diseases.  Genetics seem to play a minor role in most cancers, as do viral infections.  The two main cancer culprits seem to be lifestyle choices and environmental factors.

Cancer:

Cancer Causes include:

  • Smoking
  • Alcohol
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Dietary fat
  • Excess calories
  • Sun overexposure
  • Meat (overconsumption)
  • Diet & Nutrition – too many refined or processed foods and not enough fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fiber
  • Chemicals
  • Pesticides

Cancer develops by:

  • Exposure to carcinogens
  • Attack of cells by carcinogens (see Immune System)
  • Redefining of cell’s genetic material, also referred to as “carcinogenesis”
  • Cell multiplication by other carcinogens called “promoters”
  • Spreading of redefined cancer cells via blood and lymph
  • Interference and disruption of common body functions
Risks
  • Stress
  • Fatigue
  • Aging
  • Depression
  • Stroke
  • Heart attack
  • Death

In addition to all the possible remedies, you should probably be taking a variety of vitamins, minerals, herbs and supplements.  If you have cancer, you need to put your team together, which might consist of your regular doctor, several specialists and a nutritionist.

Alternative Medicine
If you are looking for alternative cancer therapies, almost all of them focus on treating the body as a whole, rather than your specific cancer.  They are:

Biologic & Phamacologic
Immunologic
Metabolic
