| Water |
Whether or not you have high cholesterol, water is an integral part of your body and its importance to your health cannot be underestimated. In your body, water is a transporter for nutrients, acts as a solvent for minerals, amino acids and some sugars, helps to cleanse your tissues and blood of waste, participates in chemical reactions, serves as a shock absorber inside your eyes, spinal cord and joints, and helps maintain our body temperature.
When you have high cholesterol, drinking water can play an important role because:
- Water improves blood flow and keeps your blood clean, allowing your blood to move easier through arteries
- Some cholesterol medicines can cause dehydration, and your body needs water to hydrate and maintain balance
